What is Ikebana?
Ikebana is an art form and Japanese style of flower arrangement.
Everyone enters into the exciting world of Ikebana for different reasons. Some want to connect with their cultural roots, find the Ikebana art form inspiring, practice it as a form of meditation, or simply want to make beautiful creations for their home. Whatever your reasons, Ikebana promises to captivate your imagination, provide hours of fulfilment, and reward you with artful creations.
Why study with Stephen Kuo?
Stephen Kuo has been providing the art form of Ikebana to his clients for over 30 years. He has achieved Riji level and is qualified to provide official Sogetsu certification to his students as they achieve different levels. His expertise will help you advance through this journey of discovery with ease. Interior Flori is conveniently located in point grey with easy street parking during the hours of the course.
What should I expect from classes?
In each 2-hour session, the instructor will first explain then demonstrate a basic Ikebana design before all students will practice it on their own. Once a student is able to demonstrate their skill for the 20 basic designs on one level, they can obtain their certificate and graduate to the next level.
Students that require further support to understand and demonstrate skills for certain Ikebana designs and wish to obtain certification have the option to take individual sessions. Once they demonstrates skills for the 20 designs, they will obtain certification and graduate to the next level.
Students that wish to learn Ikebana for personal enjoyment and do not wish to obtain certifications can attend all sessions, develop skills, and progress with certified students.
What will I learn?
Sogetsu Ikebana uses styles, containers, and composition to achieve beautiful balanced displays. As you progress, you will learn to combine lines, mass, and colour elements to create powerful masterpieces.
What do I need?
Ikebana students need their own Ikebana scissors and can choose to bring Kensans (frog) and containers or purchase them at the session.
Stephen Kuo is qualified to provide official Sogetsu certificates. Price of certificate depends on level of achievement.
